In order to identify a GENRE of film we need to be aware of the Codes and Conventions, the ingredients, blueprint, foundation features. These include:
- SETTING
- THEMES
- CHARACTERS
- PROPS OR ICONOGRAPHY (significant objects)
- NARRATIVE AND PLOT (typical storyline)
- STYLE (use of micro features)
- On your blog post 10 films that you think belong to the Disaster Genre, you can do this by using posters of the films and even trailers using YouTube
- Think about what all of the films you have chosen have in common. Use this commonality to write down what you think the Codes and Conventions of the Disaster Genre are. For example typical SETTINGS for Western films are frontier towns in the wild west.
